"An impossible dream" has come through

Musicals are connected to musical life, joie de vivre and fun, which is why the people of Fredericia are proud to have succeeded in creating the only musical academy in the country. The originators of the project are the borough of Fredericia and the county of Vejle - a project that the leading Danish newspaper Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten described as "The Impossible Dream". And it was the impossible dream that came through in September 2000 when The Danish Academy of Musical Theatre - Fredericia welcomed the first group of first-year students. The time was very appropriately at the beginning of a new century and the same year in which Fredericia could celebrate it’s 350-year jubilee. A wonderful birthday present.

It was a dream that the vice-chancellor at the academy (singer and director Helge Reinhardt) had had for a long time. For years he had found it unfortunate that Danish talents – Stig Rossen among others – had to go abroad to find the right education. So it was the impossible dream that came through for Helge Reinhardt on a personal level as well.

There is a long way from dreams and ideas to reality. That is how it was for Helge Reinhardt until the day when he started as director of Fredericia Theater’s musical productions. Here in Fredericia his dream caught fire and began to come into shape, when the borough of Fredericia and later the county of Vejle decided that it was an idea worth investing in. Even dreams need financing if they are to come through.

Now the academy is a reality and in Fredericia we expect a lot of it. It has created an education that demands a lot of its students. In return it provides high-caliber, international teachers. That is why I am convinced that we have created an institution which both students, the city of Fredericia, Denmark, and, with a little luck, the whole world will benefit from.

The foundation has been made and all we have to do now is work with the hopeful young talents that we are happy to welcome to Fredericia.

Kind Regards

Mayor of Fredericia

It's here

The goal of the musical education is to create a professional milieu. It is a generous offers to further educate those talents that want to work seriously with theater and especially musical performances.

The talent mass is huge and manifold. Recent years have shown an amazing canalization of a talented, youthful force in innumerable musical productions at all levels. From the annual school plays to the grandiose productions at the professional theaters.

Now, it is possible. It is possible through a three year progressively planned study to explore the depth and limits of ones talent, to dimension one’s professional insight and focus the artistic energy and to realize the peculiarity of one´s talent.

Congratulations to all who have been waiting for this opportunity for so long.
