A typical day at The Danish Academy of Musical Theatre
...will start at 8 am with warm-up. This means either Pilates, which will strengthen your center, add flexibility and focus, or Classical Ballet-bar, which is an important part of your technical training. The morning warm up is the long and thorough work. For both body and mind. You will start your day in a very healthy way, and you're sure to get fit.
From 9-11 am you have Drama/straight acting. This is everyday. It's part of a well thought-through progression for the whole 3 years.
11.30 am- 12.50 pm you'll have your first dance-class of the day. Classes vary from jazz, technique, choreography(jazz), tap, classical ballet, modern ballet, pilates and even yoga. The majority of classes is different kinds of jazz.
At 1.45 pm you'll have one-on-one singing/voice or or one-on-one dramatic speech or piano. Singing is both technique and expression. Part of the session your pianist will be there as well.
At 3 pm it's ensemble-singing presentation, coaching or ear-training. Presentation is auditions-training, this you have during 2nd and 3rd year as a preparation for the businessl. Coaching is the dramatic work of being able to tell a story through songs from an honest personal point of view. During 1st year coaching will be taught as a masterclass and during 2nd one-on-one building up to an intimate concert at the end of 3rd semester.
4.30-6.30 pm is preparation-time. All subjects demand preparation, so this is extremely important.
6.30- 8 pm is another dance class. After this you're free to go, unless you need to practice or prepare more…
When it's not everyday schedule at the academy there'll be courses, workshops, projects, masterclasses and once a year showcase. Always with national and international capacities teaching.
This is the time when you transfer you everyday practiced technique into realistic real-life experience, i praksis. This can be in all major. Often is a combination of all 3.
As you can see the education takes up most of your time....
