Entrance Examinations

The entrance examination consists of a preliminary and a main examination.

The preliminary examination will test your singing and dancing skills. It is held on March 5th & 6th 2011.The application form is required no later than 22th February 2011.

This preliminary examination must be passed to qualify for the main examination.

The main examination includes singing, dancing and acting. It will be held on March 12th & 13th 2011.

The Online application form will be available medio November 2010.

Preliminary Examination

The applicant will have to sing one song of his/her own choice within the musical or operetta genre. The applicant has to forward 2 copies of the sheets of music in the exact key chosen by the applicant. One is welcome to use self-accompaniment (the applicant still has to forward 2 copies of the sheets of music). The presentation that must be learned by heart has to be in Danish or English and have a maximum length of three minutes.

The applicant will have to perform a few basic steps as presented by a choreographer. The presentation takes place in groups of six divided into teams consisting of beginners as well as more experienced dancers. Experience shows that previous show dance or ballet lessons are an advantage. The terms of admission at The Danish Academy of Musical Theatre, Fredericia are that applicants must pass at least two out of three examinations.

The presentation will be recorded on video.

Shortly after the preliminary examination the applicant will be told in writing if he/she has passed the preliminary examination and is admitted to move on to the main examination. The applicant will, of course, be notified if he/she has failed the preliminary examination.

Main Examination

a) Singing (extended song examination)

The applicant has to bring two different songs of his/her own choice. The two pieces should differ in terms of character. It is not allowed to use the song chosen for the preliminary examination. The dramatic expressions of voice and body will be stressed. The applicant has to forward 2 copies of the sheets of music in the exact key chosen by the applicant.

b) Acting

The applicant has to present a text from a play of his/her own choice. The text that must be learned by heart must be brought to the exam in 2 copies and must have a maximum length of three minutes. A prompter will assist the applicant if necessary. Hereafter the examiners may ask the applicant to do a minor improvisation. The applicant must turn up in his/her own clothes (not a costume).

c) Dancing

The applicant will have to perform a few basic steps as presented by a choreographer.

The presentation takes place in groups of six divided into teams consisting of beginners as well as more experienced dancers. At the dance examination the applicant has to wear tight clothes such as t-shit, tights etc. and dancing or gym shoes. Experience shows that previous show dance or ballet lessons are an advantage.

The terms of admission at The Danish Academy of Musical Theatre are that applicants must pass at least two out of three examinations.

Shortly after the main examination the applicant will be told in writing of the examiner's evaluation of his/her examinations, and whether the applicant has been accepted at The Danish Academy of Musical Theatre.

Registration

When applying for admission one must use the form enclosed in the brochure or download the application form from this site.

The application form is to be filled out and mailed to The Danish Academy of Musical Theatre Fredericia. The applicant has to enclose one lifelike color photo of recent date.

The application fee (450 DKK) is used to cover the expenses of a pianist, a choreographer and the board of censors. The inpayment form will be mailed to the applicant in connection with the summoning to the entrance examination.
